2013 I-to-I Recap
from Steve Campbell

Another
great I-to-I race! There is no other race like it. I was on my old
standby, Kona One, and an 8.2 non-cambered Kona sail. The wind
speed was not quite high enough for me to plane much of the time,
so I spent a lot of time with my centerboard down, going
upwind. There was one other Kona sailor, Steve Eagen, who I had an
early lead on. Then when I was going downwind, I chose to go
on the leeward side of three tanker ships that were anchored, and I lost
a lot of time. Steve Eagen continued on the windward side of the
tankers and that was the last I saw of him! He took
off. During the race, I saw a lot of little turtles and found many
waves to surf downwind on. I think I finished overall 8th place
and had a great time. The after party was great and the sponsors
are extremely generous. It is the only race that I know of that if
you just finish the course, you leave with all sorts of goodies just for
participating. So, thank you sponsors for all of the nice stuff.
