2013 I-to-I Recap
from Mathias Strohfeldt
It was the first time to attempt
this very challenging course for a recent windsurfing restarter. Until
the morning of the race was not quite sure if I should hit the water.
The excellent race preparation by Ron and his wife gave me confidence to
at least launch and see how it goes. Start was perfect and tacked out to
soon trail the others with my 7.5 sqm sail although it was just the
right sail size for my skill level. Weather was perfect with a nice view
of the Everglades port buoys which seemed hard to reach on my tacks.
Finally got close to the 2 harbor entrance buoys which I used to start
my down wind leg which was quite speedy. Upon reaching Sun rise
boulevard I turned and navigated back to the launch site. I did not even
complete 1/2 the course but did get my feet wet and will use it as
training start to maybe do a longer distance next year. Thanks to Ron
and his wife for making such a high level event accessible to part
timers as well. I will certainly look forward to join again next
year.
Thanks a lot Ron.
Regards,
Mathias
